  •  Special adaptations to its enviroment are: Ghost Crabs can hold their breath when hibernatingfor 6 months by storing oxygen in air sacs near the gills. Ghost crabs defend themselves by fighting with their claws.

  • The general description is smooth but hard shell, small black eyes that are on stalks, with 4 pairs of legs and 2 claws.

  •  Ghost crabs capture their food by digging and sifting through the ground then snatching it with its claws.
  • Predators that eat ghost crabs are seagulls, and larger fish.
  • Ghost crabs have claws to either attack or dig underground with and a hard shell to protect themselves. 
  • Ghost crabs prey mainly on algae and micro-organisms but if in alarger group then birds,fish, or anything else that is near by.
  • The ghost crab has a mutulism relationship with terns.When terns die ghost crabs eat them then the terns are not affected by a disease the tern could have carried.
  • The ghost crab can produce 3 kinds of sounds: a rapping of the claw on the substrate, a rasping stridulation of the legs, and a bubbling sound produced from the gill chamber. Ghost crabs also wave their claws to attract mates.
  • An interesting or unusual behavior is ghost crabs walk sideways and wave their claws to attract mates.
